HAPPINESS! The greatest gift of ALL! PLEASE LISTEN TO THE ATTACHED VIDEO AT THE END!!!!!
In the amazing movie, “MOTO4” John Tomac, Eli Tomac’s Father, quoted:
“You just have to give these guys time to develop, and I have always been patient with him and that has kind of been one of my key factors in development…is just taking my time and being patient and just letting him develop at his own pace.”
Our son just began racing motocross this year… and it has been one of the most amazing and challenging journeys we have ever undertaken…in ways I never even realized to be possible!!!
Today, I truly want to thank John Tomac for the words he said with sincerity in “MOTO4”. I first heard these words when our son first started racing, and they cross my mind almost daily since–each time changing the way I think, feel, and interact with our children — ultimately improving the quality of each moment!
The journey of all athletics has many peaks and valleys, joy and sorrow, financial and emotional strain, health, endurance and victory!
💫Yet, at times the sadness in your child’s face when they don’t get the results they desire brings tears to your eyes.
💫And, the defeat, anger, and sadness you feel as a parent when your child doesn’t get the results YOU want them to accomplish… Whether it was them not performing at our expectations or some other factor.
But really what results are we expecting?? Merely to WIN the RACE? To be the “TRUE CHAMPION”?
Does “WINNING the RACE” bring everlasting happiness?
Does “TAKING LAST” bring everlasting happiness?
Or could it be that a component of BOTH… that the entire spectrum could bring “True Happiness”?
YES… in any sport or challenge in life, a component of the ENTIRE SPECTRUM can bring “TRUE HAPPINESS”–each teaching us new lessons of life!
So, Why am I writing this today???
As a reminder to myself about the importance of “True Happiness!”… About the journey of life!…and my children’s life!
Yes, it is important to WIN, but it is equally or more important to ENJOY the Process of getting to WINNING!
Several months ago, after hearing John Tomac’s words over and over again in my head as my child practiced and raced, I remembered and was reminded of something so important.
“Through each experience, I get to enjoy the journey of learning to be a champion…not just the end result. Each day, I get to learn to be a better person and to truly enjoy life in a different way. To learn from mistakes and make changes. To realize the true innocence of my children and how WE are here to teach them about life through our actions and words. I remembered again that we are not only here to foster the growth of a motocross champion, but also, the growth and development of a “HAPPY CHILD”! Realizing that EACH child is UNIQUE and AMAZING in their own way… Knowing the importance of frequent adaptions to reach the individual needs of each child. Finally, for EVERY moment, ENJOY where you are — exactly as you are, and as your child is! — and grow from there! Be mindful of YOUR starting point and go from there!! Always being mindful of STRENGTHS and POSITIVE QUALITIES!!!! “
So, it was in much silence and thought this past weekend at the Gold Cup Race in California, that I really reflected on how grateful I was to have heard John Tomac’s words…
“…just letting him develop at his own pace”
It was when we really started letting our son develop at his own pace, that our experience as a family changed!!
Really, how COOL is it to support yourself and your child at the pace that is intended at that exact moment in time!!! To learn and grow from the entire spectrum of experiences!! To ENJOY the Journey!
Don’t Blink… You may miss one of the most amazing times of your life!!!
As I drove for 10 hours, home from the race, I listened to amazing music and to “TED Talks”.
I was absolutely amazed of the timing when I heard David Steindl-Rast, “Want To Be Happy? Be Grateful”.
I listened to it over and over again… each time realizing something more!
So, it is with this that I hope you continue to find “True Happiness” in your life!
Even just as important, to teach your children by example the importance of “HAPPINESS”…and then I can assure you a “TRUE CHAMPION” will be Born!!
With Much Love and Light! Brittany
